A tax-wise gift that gives back

Learn more about how a charitable gift annuity (CGA) can benefit you while positively impacting the lives of all Idahoans by enhancing the scientific, economic, social, legal, and cultural assets of our state.

How a Charitable Gift Annuity Works

  • You donate cash or appreciated securities worth $25,000 or more to University of Idaho. In return, you and/or another beneficiary will receive fixed payments for life.
  • Your payment rate is based on your age and will never change.
  • A portion of your payments will be tax-free.
  • The older you are, or the longer you defer starting your payments, the higher your payments will be.

*While there is no minimum age requirement, suggested payments start at age 60 or later. You may choose to begin receiving payments immediately or defer them to a future date.

Idaho residents may qualify for the unique Idaho State Education Tax Credit. This special incentive can directly reduce your state tax liability, making your generosity go even further for both you and our students.

Benefits of a Charitable Gift Annuity

Payment rates can now reach 10.1 percent, depending on your age. If you don’t need the income immediately, you can schedule payments to begin at least one year after your donation. The longer the deferral period, the higher your payment rate.

A charitable gift annuity offers:

  • Guaranteed fixed lifetime income at new, higher rates with no stock market risk
  • Current income tax charitable deduction
  • Possible tax-free income
  • Potential estate tax savings
  • Ability to direct your gift to a specific purpose at University of Idaho

Donor Story: Matt and Karen Telin

ā€œIf you’re thinking about making a gift to the University of Idaho, we’d encourage you to look into a charitable gift annuity. We wish someone had told us about this gifting strategy sooner. It’s comforting to know we’re receiving dependable income in retirement while also investing in future student-athletes who want to become educators. Knowing they’ll have opportunities because of this gift means the world to us.ā€
